An unintended expatriate blogger behind CalmRiverMeadow

Hi, I'm Olivia
I am a project manager and a parent, living as an expat in Toronto, Canada.
A few years back I moved here with my family. What began as a temporary assignment gradually became a new chapter in my life abroad.
How It Started
Moving to Canada wasn't on the horizon of our long-range plans. As with many expat relocations, it began as a job opportunity and quickly grew into something far more significant.
The initial months were demanding — new processes, new schedules, new expectations. Routine tasks felt more complex than they ought to be.
The Adjustment Period
There was culture shock, doubt, and plenty of hands-on learning. Yet gradually routines settled in. We found spots that fit our needs, connected with other families, and began creating something that felt secure.
Why I Built CalmRiverMeadow
Most online information was either corporate-level relocation guidance or shallow tourism content. What was missing was an honest, day-to-day family perspective.
This site aims to bridge that gap — practical guidance drawn from real-life in Canada.
What This Site Is (And Isn't)
This site is about:
- Practical insights gained from living in Canada
- Centered on family life and daily realities
- Updated whenever something truly changes
This site is not:
- An official resource from tourism authorities
- A platform for paid reviews
- Just another generic travel blog
Looking Ahead
Our time in Canada continues, and so does the learning journey. As long as the information remains useful, I’ll continue documenting what we discover.
If you have questions about family life in Toronto or anywhere in Canada, please feel free to get in touch.
Warm regards,
Olivia
